Johnson-Schmidt & Associates rehabilitated historic sites, Bresee's Department Store and the Dietz Building. The ground floors were repurposed into new commercial spaces, with 22 market-rate apartments designed for the upper floors. A thorough review of the New York State Building Code ensured mandatory safety and fire regulations were met, sprinkler systems were installed, ADA-accessible entrances were established, and fire-rated stairways were confirmed. Exterior masonry, windows, and carpentry were painstakingly restored to their original form. Most of the two buildings' interior walls were retained to preserve the historical integrity.
