Preservation :: Planning

Preservation planning plays a critical role in municipalities’ overall land-use planning. As preservation planners, we generally begin with the identification of properties that are significant to the history, architecture, archeology, engineering, or culture of an area. We then work with government planning agencies and citizen groups to develop practical, realistic municipal plans that both preserve the history and provide a development platform for current and future needs of the community.

Johnson-Schmidt & Associates is a firm with a unique ability to consider preservation projects from multiple perspectives. Owner and Principal Architect, Elise Johnson-Schmidt, has experienced the preservation process from the viewpoint of private practice architect, owner of historic buildings, and non-profit agency director in the field of historic preservation. These experiences have allowed for a diverse and encompassing understanding of the planning involved in all aspects of preservation.
