Preservation :: Code Work
Building code for historic and existing buildings differs from that for new construction. Johnson-Schmidt & Associates is skilled both at interpreting and applying existing building codes for the purpose of revitalizing historic structures while maintaining the safety of the users and inhabitants.
Principal Architect, Elise Johnson-Schmidt, was one of a select group of architects hired by the Preservation League of New York State to provide case studies for the state’s use in redeveloping its building code for existing projects and continues to be on a leader in redevelopment studies. The New York State Building Code and the International Building Code have been developed simultaneously to enhance the ability to revitalize existing and historic structures.
